Here, the exceptionally popular artist Edmund Dulac renders Hawthorne's tales into vibrant color illustrations, bringing them to life. His main alteration of stories was a reshaping of sexual violence - notably in the cases of Ariadne and Persephone -into abduction, as he considered a youthful readership unprepared for those themes. In his follow up to Wonder Book for Boys and Girls, Hawthorne presented juvenile readers with rewritings of stories from classical mythology.
